Community Service Awards Honor Volunteers

The 40th Annual Community Service Awards were presented on Tuesday, April 19, at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa. Sponsored by United Way Monterey County Volunteer Center, this free community event honored more than 120 individual volunteers.  The Community Alliance for Safety and Peace and its volunteers were also recognized as during the ceremony.  Emcees were Dann Cianca, Chief Meteorologist at KION and Tre Watkins, UWMC Community Impact Manager.

How Pathways to Stability Will Make a Difference

Lacking stable housing is linked to a myriad of social, emotional, academic and physical limitations.  Students who transfer schools more frequently than average experience lower graduation rates and lower levels of student success. Not only do frequent moves negatively impact their educational prospects it also has a detrimental effect on their classmates and teachers. Moving homes is the primary reason for transferring, not academic or disciplinary reasons.

You can now read the full text of the final reports for the Adult Survey, Youth Survey and Community Conversations, as well as the Secondary Data Findings.
