MLK Day of Service

This January, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's vision of a "Beloved Community," we encourage all community members to  give back through service. Since 1994, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which takes place every year on the third Monday in January, has been the only federal holiday designated by Congress as a National Day of Service. This January 16, people all across the nation have made a commitment to take a "day on, not a day off" by joining together to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers and create solutions to social problems. MLK Day of Service is the perfect time for Americans to answer Dr. King’s challenge to do something for others. There are many ways to help meet this challenge throughout Monterey County. "Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
