United Way celebrated St. Patrick's Day early by helping local families put a little green in their pockets. We partnered with Board of Equalization Member Fiona Ma, CPA, Assembly Member Anna Caballero and Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter to offer a Pop-up VITA Site at Hartnell College.
Our goal was to spread the word about State (CalEITC) and Federal Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC). CalEITC helps hard-working California families who are below the poverty line receive a little extra help to pay for necessities of life: groceries, school supplies, food, mortgages, and other bills. As of February 25, the state has issued $132.9 million worth of CalEITC, a 50 percent increase over this time last year with nearly $1.5 million given to nearly 2,200 families so far in Monterey County.
Huge shout out to our VITA partners:
