that make sense to start with when you’re thinking about financial literacy.

All of our programs include a brief introduction to United Way Monterey County

Debt and Debt Management

Help your students take charge of their financial futures with practical tools to manage debt, build credit, and confidently navigate borrowing decisions.

 

Budgeting and Building a Financial Plan

Turn budgeting from intimidating to empowering! This hands-on session helps your students build a real budget and create a financial plan that keeps them on track toward their goals.

Budgeting to Financial Freedom: Planning for YOU

Create a budget that reflects your real life and goals—not just numbers on a page. Learn how to track income and expenses, prioritize spending, and use budgeting to support longer-term financial plans. Participants fill out a personalized budget worksheet and take-home tools to keep building their plan after the workshop ends.

 

Doing Taxes with VITA

Get familiar with the tax filing process and learn what to bring, what forms to expect, and which tax credits may apply to you. This upcoming workshop, led in partnership with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), will also explain how to get free tax prep support through trusted local programs. Perfect for first-time filers or anyone who wants to feel more confident about doing their taxes.

Start to Save: Navigating Local Resources to Reduce Household Expenses

This session connects you to low- and no-cost services that can reduce your monthly bills and free up money for other needs. Explore resources for housing, food, utilities, childcare, transportation, and more. Participants walk away with a personalized list of programs they may qualify for and the first steps for applying

 

Managing Debt and Improving Credit

Carrying debt or struggling with credit? This workshop breaks down how debt works, how to reduce what you owe, and how to build or rebuild credit with confidence. Learn how credit scores are calculated, what lenders look for, and how even small changes can make a big difference. Participants leave with a clearer understanding of their current debt and a plan to move forward—plus tools to help make borrowing smarter in the future.
