What is an Urgent Referral?

Urgent Referrals allow the sending Agency to indicate that a referral may require immediate attention. When a referral is marked as urgent, a red Urgent badge is displayed to help receiving Agencies quickly identify time-sensitive referrals.

Urgent referrals should be reserved for situations where a delay in response could significantly impact the client's well-being, safety, housing stability, or access to critical services.

Marking a referral as urgent does not guarantee acceptance into a Program or change eligibility requirements. Receiving Agencies should review the referral details and determine the appropriate next steps based on their policies and available services.

Best Practices

  • Use urgent referrals only when immediate attention is warranted.
  • Include referral notes that explain why the referral is urgent.
  • Verify that all relevant client information is included before submitting the referral.
  • Avoid overusing the urgent designation so that truly urgent referrals remain easy to identify.
